Doors should seal tightly against the door frames, not leaving a gap where a burglar could pry open the door or kick it in. Windows should seal tightly for the same reason. Finally, choose doors that are solid, not those with glass panels; it is easy to break the glass panel, reach in, and turn the knob from the inside. If you do have a door with glass panels, then consider installing double cylinder locks.
For sliding glass doors, placing a pipe or even wooden board in the sliding track can prevent it from being opened. Always remember to lock the doors and the windows when leaving the house, and even when inside the home.
